{SAP JOBS USA:159259} Middleware Engineer

Middleware Engineer/Application Server Engineer
Location: San Francisco, CA

Top 3 Requirements:
•Java Application Server Engineering - Tomcat & WebSphere
•UNIX/Solaris
•Shell; Java app scripts

Please immediately let me know if you have any application server engineers (not Java developers).
This is not a WebLogic/Tomcat admin role; it is an engineer role (high-level admin experience is okay).
Focus will be configuring, installing and patching Java application servers (Weblogic & TomCat) and doing this in a
UNIX/Solaris environment. Thanks!

The primary focus of this position will be around engineering our standards developing implementation best practice documentation for hardware (Dell Oracle), virtualization (VMware, Solaris Zones, Oracle VM for SPARC Systems aka LDoms), operating systems (Solaris 10 11 and RHEL 5 6). A successful candidate must have strong communication skills (both oral and written) as a large part of this role will involve working with the infrastructure architects and other engineering/operations teams as well as producing documentation that will be used for new platform builds. Having a UNIX systems administration background will be a major plus, however it's very important to note that this is primarily an engineering role, not a system admin one. Typical duties will include taking hardware diagrams and creating OS build documents, testing out and developing procedures for new features (i.e. we're currently testing Solaris 10 local zones in a Solaris 11 global zone), working with infrastructure architecture to determine hardware roadmap, etc.

Platform engineering is also responsible for other layers of the stack so if the candidate has experience with Java, application servers (WebLogic, Tomcat/tc Server), message servers (WebSphere MQ), and web servers (particularly SunONE iPlanet), those are also pluses. With that said, the primary focus is hardware, virtualization, and operating systems.

Desired skills:

• Strong understanding of UNIX (Everything is a file, POSIX, etc.)
• Strong UNIX/Linux experience, preferably with RHEL 5 6 and Solaris 10 11
• Experience with virtualization technology (VMware ESXi, Solaris Zones, Solaris LDoms)
• Ability to use at least one scripting language (bash, ksh, perl, python, etc.)
• Strong communication skills
• Preferred skills (these are all a plus:
• Experience with Puppet (or Chef/CFEngine)
• Experience with Clustering (Linux HA or VCS)
• Experience with Docker
• Experience with RHEL 7
• Experience with other PE supported tech (WebLogic, tc Server, WebSphere MQ, iPlanet, Java)
• Experience with OpenStack
• Experience with Java
