Title: Front End Web Developer (HTML, CSS)

Duration: 6+ months

The New Product Development User Experience team is situated within the Legal Division of the company, and plays an integral role in research, design and implementation of online, mobile and desktop solutions for the legal market.
The front-end web developer will be responsible for working with designers, information architects and a team of developers to define HTML mark-up and create CSS style sheets for complex, information-rich web and mobile applications. This role will suit a curious, creative, innovative, conceptual thinker, happy to work in a fast-paced environment.
Experience:
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field preferred or equivalent technology-related work experience
• Familiarity with working in Agile development environment
• Strong knowledge of web standards and accessibility (W3C and s508), interaction design and user-cantered design principles
• Minimum 2+ years experience developing large, complex front-end web applications preferred
• Portfolio of work
Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Knowledge of web standards, accessibility, CSS-driven layouts and manipulating the DOM
• Ability to create production-quality CSS, XML, HTML and JavaScript for use in content management systems, web applications and more
• Implementing browser-independent designs and cross-browser issues (IE, Firefox, Safari etc) on all platforms
• Design experience with a good eye for aesthetics and detail; can faithfully convert Photoshop design specifications into a functional, standards-compliant website
Familiar with:
• Developing for mobile (Smart phones) and tablet devices
• PHP, ASP/ASP.NET, JSP is a plus
• Understanding of AJAX and jQuery (other JS libraries like backbone.js a plus)
• Ability to follow technical specifications and production processes
• Ability to adjust graphics and create / optimize graphics assets as needed to complete designs
• Ability to work with source/version control software
• Aptitude to understand and build SEO/semantic solutions
• CSS image sprites

• Ability to interact with and provide direction to other team members, both in UXE team and wider cross-functional capacity (technology, content, marketing, product development)
• Ability to build consensus between technology, quality and business groups and justify design decisions
Comment :
We really need someone who is strong in CSS and HTML. The position will sometimes modify existing JavaScript, but focuses mostly on the CSS and HTML structure. Which tends to be different from many front end developer positions out there. We work with a team of developers who are responsible for the backend and Javascript code, so our team has to be the experts in the CSS and HTML. We work on multiple projects at once, ranging from a 1-2 week project, to a 2-3 year project. A lot of our projects are brand new products being developed, but a fair share of them is updates and bug fixes to existing products already launched. It is extremely helpful if the applicant can submit a portfolio showing code examples, along with their resume. Either in a separate file, or in a working portfolio website. We will be giving a CSS/HTML exercise during the interview to evaluate their skill level
