Position: Hardware Engineer
Duration: 2 Yrs
Location: Irving, TX
The primary duties of the Server hardware configuration engineer are to investigate, specify, and test new server hardware to be used as corporate standard units. Server hardware includes chassis based systems, blades, chassis based network and storage connectivity modules, standalone servers, and interconnects. Does not include networking, SAN, or storage but experience with these is preferred.
The engineer must be able to perform the configuration of server hardware for the Lab environment and create detailed documentation that managed service providers will use when deploying that hardware into the data centers. Communication skills are critical.
Education/Experience
o Bachelors degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent field experience required
o 8-10 years experience required
Responsibility level
o Exercises independent judgment with minimal direction from supervisor
Skills
o Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills (Required)
o Strong ability to work independently and manage one's time (Required)
o Strong knowledge of the full server deployment lifecycle: from systems analysis through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to installation, configuration, testing, and delivery (Required)
o Strong ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issue
o Strong knowledge of server hardware components including processors, memory, shared compute bus, virtual connect hardware, and out of band management (Required)
o Knowledge of computer operating systems software as it relates to server functionality including drivers and interoperability (Required)
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
o Review and approve the modification of existing server hardware standards and specifications
o Design, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems
o Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of server hardware and coordinate their installation and configuration with multiple third party service providers
