Responsibilities and Scope
Data Architect/Modeler, Reporting and Business Intelligence Subject Matter Expert for Certified and Ad Hoc reporting tools, data warehouse systems and data.
Successful candidate must be able to conceptualize, define, and develop complex to highly complex data model based on standards for multi-source enterprise wide applications. Candidate will be responsible for design activities from requirements analysis through systems, application, and/or process design for transactional data as well as analytical data models (data mart etc.) including operational support.
Job responsibilities include the creation and maintenance of Reporting and BI content. Work with users to determine requirements and translate them into features. Design, develop, test, and implement required application and data components. Establish project plans and schedules. Work with back-end systems personnel to design and implement solutions. Provide status reports as required. Participate in development and implementation of application, data and system production standards. Candidate will work with the user community and the Global IT team to establish functional vision, direction, operating standards and procedures.
Skills/ Qualifications
- Expertise with Entity-Relational data modeling in a large scale system
- Experience with SQL Server Integration Services
- Experience with IBM Framework Manager
- Experience in Cognos BI Suite
- Experience with ETL tools such as WhereScape RED
- Experience with Teradata and also possibly with Oracle, SQL Server databases
- Working knowledge of SOA concepts and standards
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies
- Must have strong interpersonal skills
- Must be able to communicate effectively with customer groups to analyze requirements.
- Very strong attention to detail
- Must be able to work in teams, and manage a project from beginning to end
- Must be a self-starter
Essential Functions
- Design certified and ad hoc reporting framework Performs complex to highly complex source code development.
- Assists in the development of production support documentation.
- Provides functional/system integration testing support.
- Performs Quality Assurance architecture and design guide review.
- Contributes complex to highly complex technical alternatives, impact analysis, and component design and application architecture.
- Leads data modeling sessions
- Development of Logical data modeling, E-R modeling and development of Star Schema(s) where appropriate
- Physical data modeling including tables, keys, views, materialized views, physical space consideration, partitioning etc.
- Supports Physical database implementation and tuning
- Support s SQL and database tuning from application perspective
- Support s development of store procedures as needed for data staging and migrations
- Designs, builds and documents ETL, BI data models and other data flow components
- Design, develop, document and maintain cubes based on specifications – where appropriate
- Provide analytical leadership in assessing impact of requested changes to the ETL and BI Model
- Designs BI software and Report solutions and provides work estimates
- Provides consistency in design across all developments to ensure maximum reuse
- Receive and interpret specifications, priorities and deadlines
- Interfaces with customers and other Business groups to determine requirements
- Identify data sources, enhancements, and areas of work required to achieve the needs specified
- Reviews logical and physical data model for data integrity, performance and recoverability, maintenance, and space requirement considerations
- Coordinates with all cross-functional groups when enhancements and maintenance of applications are necessary
- Plan Technical integration tests / participate in integration tests
- Assists in complex to highly complex unit test case development.
- Develops complex to highly complex test scripts.
- Identifies, analyzes, prioritizes, assigns and/or resolves business and technical issues
- Evaluate application software packages and make recommendations to management
- Participate in new product reviews, tests, and pilots
- Identify conflicting business practices and integration issues
- Provides liaison duties with Business process teams
- Develops Build and Deployment guide.
- Develops and publishes guidelines and standards for Global IT.
- Evaluates functional specifications for completeness and clarity and determines technical direction or high level design
- Works with Business teams to understand business process flow and determine functional requirements for new custom development
- Trains users on how to extract the information that they need from the BI tools
- Ensures code is designed to specifications, provides feedback to other developers/teams when appropriate, Consults in the areas such as functional and technical design, coding, and testing
- Supports the SDLC through design, testing code, debugging, deployment and documentation
- Updates Development Standards as new technologies are added to the environment
- Prepare status reports and maintains effective communication with management on work assignments completed on time according to dates/milestones in the project plan
Minimum Qualifications
§ Knowledge and Skills
Requires thorough knowledge of Reporting and Business Intelligence principles and procedures oriented to support Manufacturing enterprise requirements. Requires progressive experience in systems design and development. Requires technical problem solving and analytical skills. Requires sufficient communication skills to conduct individual instruction, technical assistance, and apply understandable lines of questioning when trying to understand department needs or problems.
§ Abilities
Requires the ability to perform all of the relevant duties of the position with general supervision. Requires the ability to analyze technical problems and to develop and apply appropriate solutions. Requires the ability to analyze data and develop logical solutions. Requires the ability to discuss technical information with users, discern their needs and develop screens, etc.
§ Education and Experience
Position requires a BS degree plus five years’ experience. Graduate degree in Computer Science preferred. Experience in Healthcare Manufacturing industry is a plus.
§ Licenses and Certificates
None required. Cognos tool certifications preferred.
