Job Title: - Senior Java Architect

Location: - Bristol, CT

Duration: - 12+ Months

Job Description:

The Senior Architect works under the direction of the Principal Architect to design software systems supporting media production at ESPN. In initiatives ranging from small-scale tactical solutions to enterprise-level strategic projects it is the Senior Architect's responsibility to propose and vet designs that satisfy requirements while maintaining consistency and quality across the systems supported by Production Software Engineering. During the design phase of a project, the Senior Architect will gain an understanding of the problem to solve and apply past experience and current research to document and propose a solution. The Senior Architect may develop software prototypes as necessary to validate a given design. As the project moves into a development phase, the Senior Architect will work closely with the development team to ensure that design goals are maintained and, if necessary, augment or change the design to suit emergent requirements.

Required:

- Expert level knowledge of the Java programming language and runtime

- Expert level knowledge of Java EE or comparable development framework

- Extensive experience designing and implementing scalable software systems using service-oriented architectures

- 5+ year of architecture experience ( Design, Specification, Implementation)
- Must be a strong communicator
- Experience with the following:
- EJB 3.0 or higher
- Restful Web Services
- API's

Roles & Responsibilities:

Designing and documenting software APIs exposed as RESTful web services - Prototyping software components to validate design proposals - Coordinating with internal development groups to leverage existing services where possible - Maintaining API documentation for supported services - Providing technical leadership to development staff and expert assistance when necessary - Staying abreast of current and emerging trends in software development in general and particularly where they intersect the broadcast industry - Liaising with third-party vendors to help make product decisions and guide external development in support of internal initiatives
