Position: Big Data Administrator

Location: Redwood City, CA
Duration: 6 months

Job description

· Proven experience as a system administrator for following key big data technologies: Hadoop, HDFS, Mapreduce, HBase, Hive, Spark, Kafka

· Automate operation, installation and monitoring of different components in open source infrastructure stack

· Hands on expertise on Linux, Unix and scripting skills will be beneficial.

· Troubleshoot, debug and recover from run-time cluster issues

· Handling infrastructure operations with 250+ nodes storing petabytes of compressed data across multiple data centres

· Strong communication, technology awareness and capability to interact work with senior technology leaders is a must.

· Perform feature evaluations/POC/implementations and help clients' core enterprise Big data organization build and maintain next-generation data platform

· Document all production scenarios, issues and resolutions

Must have

· 5+ years of engineering operations experience, including a minimum of 1.5 years of Hadoop experience. Proven experience as a system administrator for following key big data technologies: Hadoop, HDFS, Mapreduce, HBase, Hive, Spark, Kafka

· Strong Linux administration experience

· Expertise in building, maintaining and tuning clusters

· Automated cluster and configuration deployments using Puppet

· Passionate about working with open source technologies

· Automation via scripting: Ruby (in use at RF)/Python/Perl/Golang

· Knowledge of Hadoop in depth for troubleshooting scenarios for e.g. A job is failing, he should be able to identify is it due to garbage collection issue, memory issue, misconfiguration communicate that to the team and also work on it and getting it rectified.

· Configuration management: Puppet (in use at RF)/ SaltStack (planning to migrate to it)/ Chef/Ansible

Nice to have

· Understanding of Monitoring would be really preferred: experience with Nagios/OpenTSDB is a plus
