Job Description:

Role : Sybase DBA

Location : Plymouth, MN
Duration : 6-12 months

Start : ASAP

Interview: Phone (next 48 Hours)

 

Primary Responsibilities:
•Support Sybase databases in high availability UNIX environments with thorough knowledge of IBM AIX platforms, specifically in an LPAR environment
•Design, implement and maintain all functions of database systems, including access, methods and time, device allocations, validation checks, organization, security, documentation and statistical methodology
•Consult with users; determine requirements and recommends database establishment and utilization
•Assist in design, test, implementation, maintenance and control of physical and relational databases
•May consult with Systems Analysts and designers on procedures related to new or existing databases
•Assist in development of systems and procedures affecting database management, design and maintenance
•Establish and maintain databases for user testing and production with direction
•Evaluate, test and produce recommendations for the selection, user and deployment of DBMS software, data management tools and utilities, data warehouse and replication tools
•Support problem resolution; consult and advise in application design and tuning; plan, organize and execute product benchmarks for threshold and functionality
•Provide data administration support of the development and maintenance of production and non-production database environments for distributed applications
•Participate in product evaluations, design review session, data requirement meetings and consulting with application development products
•Participate in 24x7 on call rotation

Required Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
•7+ years of production support or technology administration supporting internal RDBMS systems
•5+ years of Sybase database and replication administration experience
•5+ years UNIX platform experience with shell scripting
•Understand the systems development process and have a solid understanding of business processes
•Proven analytic skills and strong judgment
•Strong communication skills
•Ability to work effectively with team/others and share knowledge to ensure team success
•Demonstrated diagnostic skills
•Experience with file structures, design, retrieval, access methods, etc

Preferred Qualifications:
•Sybase ASE 15.x experience
•Sybase Replication Server 15.x experience
•Experience with Sybase IQ 15.x
•TSM backup environment experience
•Bradmark Surveillance experience
•Experience running batch jobs through Tivoli Work Scheduler (TWS) tools
•Experience with Unix/Perl scripting and SQL Coding
