Role: Programmer / Developer Lead - Puppet Engineer
Work Location: San Jose, CA or RTP, NC
JOB DESCRIPTION
Must have experience with system, orchestration, and deployment of cloud automation scripts, workflows etc. Must also have experience working with large-scale systems running on cloud infrastructure on VMware or OpenStack.
Responsibilities
• Create, deploy, and maintain systems that connect large scale services with customers world-wide.
• Write software to help accelerate the construction of those services.
• Build tools and systems for engineering and managing infrastructure using Puppet.
• Act as a technical resource to the rest of engineering.
• Troubleshoot any and all service or performance problems.
• Build tools to assist Network Operations in being alerted to, diagnose, and correct service problems and outages.
Qualifications
• Rich background with Linux systems and infrastructure automation
• Understanding of modern configuration management systems, such as Puppet (mandatory) and Chef (desirable).
• Programming experience with Python, Ruby, and/or shell.
• Strong knowledge of networking, databases, and web applications.
• Proficiencies with a majority of the following: Apache, Debian, Nagios, Nginx, Squid, Varnish, MySQL, MongoDB.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related degree and/or relevant experience.
• 4 years experience in professional software and system engineering or equivalent
Must Haves
1. Experience building of puppet manifests and understanding of Puppet Enterprise infrastructure.
2. Scripting Knowledge in at least 2 of the following â€" bash, Perl, Python, Ruby
3. Ability to package and create RPM files not using them.
Good to Have
1. Source Control System knowledge â€" Git/Crucible/Jenkins
2. Operations Support Experience.
