The Opportunity: Sr. Data Modeler

•Provide vision, leadership and strategic direction on data management and enterprise information management

•Lead the data Conformance initiative by ensuring that the involved teams follow a well defined process

•Deliver an overall data management plan that will define, document and present master data and meta-data

•Create data dictionaries and conceptual, logical and physical data models

•Define, develop and deliver consistent information and data standards, methodologies, guidelines, best practice and approved modeling techniques around data quality, data governance and data security

•Ensure compliance with data privacy, data security and other key standards critical to the business

•Partner with subject matter experts, architects and developers to capture and analyze business needs and information requirements

•Review and evaluate unstructured data and create policies that will advise developers, designers and users on how to make this data efficiently available

•Research data modeling standards used in today's organization and evaluate how to best implement such standards to fit the company's business strategies

•Define and document business processes, information flow from origination to archive, key data elements and system of record and all data architecture artifacts as needed

•Create and maintain data environment performance attributes in order to ensure optimal performance of the organization's data environment

 

Experience, Skills, Education and Training:

•8 – 10 years experience in a senior level data modeller role

•Hands on experience on leading Data Conformance projects

•Demonstrated ability to execute, design and implement Data model for complex taxonomies, metadata frameworks, and templates for content management systems

•Strong conceptual, logical and physical data modeling experience

•Demonstrated experience using web analytics data to inform design decisions and quantitative DA methodologies

•Experience with Entity Relationship Diagrams and data modeling tools such as ErWin

•Experience working with high volume transactional databases

•Experience dealing with data security both in transit and at rest

•Teradata, Informatica data architecture experience

•Demonstrated experience with current programming languages (e.g., tsql, bashrc, ksh,etc.) and writing/maintaining scripts

•A thorough understanding of industry best practices and SOA based enterprise data architectures

•Excellent communication skills

•Strong problem solver with ability to evaluate a challenge and understand solution patterns

•Experience with development methodologies such as Agile

•Experience in the financial and banking industry a plus

•Prior experience working on data strategy and road maps

 

Job Level Specific Duties

•Supports large and critical software applications within the organization.

•Viewed as a technical expert or adviser for one or more applications.

•Participates on (and may lead) projects where analysis of systems or data requires an in-depth evaluation of complex business process, system process, and industry standards.

•Regularly mentors and reviews work of less experienced team members.

•Executes schedules, costs and documentation to ensure assigned projects come to successful conclusion.

•Initiates corrective action to stay on project schedules.

 

Typical Years of Experience

•Typically requires 6-8 years relevant experience.

 

Minimum Education and Certifications

•Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

•Graduate degree preferred.

 

Skills

•Possesses and applies broad knowledge of applications programming principles.

•Competent to analyze diverse and complex problems.

•Competent to work in all phases of applications programming.

•Knowledge includes advanced work on standard applications programs including coding, testing and debugging.

•Advanced ability to effectively troubleshoot program errors.

•Advanced understanding of how technology decisions relate to business needs.
