Responsibilities:
The J2EE Software Engineer will work on the development of a digital library that brings together content, tools, and people. This library provides access to a variety of digital content such as high-resolution images, scientific essays, and other multimedia types. Qualified candidates need to have extensive experience working in a team environment to design and develop web-based applications; using Java technology in a UNIX/Linux environment to store, manage, and deliver large amounts and large varieties of digital content; and developing tools that allow interaction on that content. The person who fills this position will be involved in the entire software development life cycle as well as maintenance, support and enhancement of the existing system. The new software infrastructure must provide high performance, scalability, reliability, and availability at both the system and component level.
· Design, develop and test software following designed development methodologies, processes and standards
· Review system requirements and translate them into software code
· Perform technical research: recommend short and long term solutions
· Produce high quality documentation
· Develop test plans and scripts
· Diagnose problems and implement code fixes to solve them
· Collaborate with project management and business analysts to provide time estimates for assigned activites
· Work with a smart collaborative team
·
Required Skills and Experience
· Minimum 4 years developing J2EE applications
· Expert level UI development using HTML5/CSS, advanced JavaScript libraries and UI components
· Experience developing XML and related standards such as XSLT, XSD, DTD
· Extensive experience with Spring Framework
· Development with persistence frameworks like Hibernate
· Good knowledge of data models and design patterns
· Development experience with Web Services
Some nice to have skills
· Unix shell scripting
· Working experience with AWS (or any cloud environment)
· Development experience with Ant or Maven
· Experience executing performance measurement and optimization for J2EE applications
