Responsibilities:

The long term role of the Data Steward/Data Analyst (DS) is to manage, investigate, and resolve enterprise data quality issues internally and externally, via investigation, coordination, addition, merging and deletion, while safeguarding against data loss. DS also guide decision makers in determining where to place specific data while considering business purposes, and how the location of certain data will incur particular risks.

 

DS have a solid understanding of the data needs of the business, and are the key implementers and enforcers of data policies, processes, procedures and standards. This individual is also expected to take a lead in preventing data quality issues by identifying frequent user errors, and working with business units as well to strengthen user competence.

 

Short term day to day responsibilities of the DS will be to manage the flow, quality and manual processing of incoming vendor data for price file updates, vendor communications as well as new part requests from internal Sales Team. The DS will be responsible for creating processes for the manual methods using a high regard for data quality. In addition he/she will be tasked with making recommendations for process automation as well as implementing those recommendations.

 

 

Position Requirements

Knowledge & Experience

·         Associates or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or Engineering or equivalent work experience. High school diploma required.

·         At least 8 years of demonstrated experience in working with data quality, metadata management, master data management (MDM), or process improvement initiatives.

·         At least 3+ years demonstrated experience with programming and/or reporting skills.

·         Experience in an industry recognized Master Data Management software suite is highly desired.

·         Education and training related to business process improvement and its desired business outcomes, and quality-assurance methods (for example, popular quality-oriented methodologies such as Six Sigma), are preferred.

·         Hands on experience with Microsoft SQL Server as well as reporting tools such as SSRS, Crystal Reports or other reporting systems required.

·         Familiarity with Tableau 8.0.

·         Programming experience required in .Net

·         Strong understanding of data entry/update best practices.

·         Experience with data analysis techniques.

·         Awareness of the security, privacy and quality requirements for critical data entities.

·         Solid project management skills, to guide both point-in-time and ongoing targeted data quality, retention, security and privacy improvement projects.

·         Ability to manage a complex workload that includes multiple tasks and conflicting priorities with minimal supervision

Strategies and Planning

·         Create and implement an enterprise data management strategy, including training materials, set refresh cycles, and statistical reporting for achieving and maintaining high data quality.

·         Work alongside IT staff as well as senior management to:

§  Coordinate the placing of data

§  Participate in the development of a data integration strategy

§  Participate in the development of a data security strategy

§  Ensure that project management and software development methodologies include the steps, activities, and deliverables required to achieve high quality data.

 

Operational Management

 

·         Coordinates with 100+ manufacturers for company data collection such as price updates and part data.

·         Maintains accurate records, such as price histories or problem in doing business with particular vendors.

·         Identify and ensure the resolution of data quality issues (with internal staff as well as manufacturers) such as uniqueness, integrity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness, in a cost-effective and timely manner.

·         Manage data quality audits internally as well as for external manufacturers, generate reports and dashboards.

·         Manage supplier's timelines and accountability for data quality issues.

·         Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets and develop graphs, reports, and presentations of results.

·         Devise, coordinate, and conduct mass data-cleansing initiatives for the purpose of purging and eliminating corrupt or redundant information from corporate databases.

·         Identify causes of poor data quality, implement solutions, escalate and communicate findings to employees, management, and stakeholders.

·         Develop and enforce methods and validation mechanisms for ensuring data quality, and accuracy at the point of entry.

 

Work collaboratively with the system architects to develop methods for synchronizing data entering company systems from multiple points.

·         Conduct research and make recommendations on products, tools, services, protocols, and standards that will support the data management strategy.

·         Create tools for data analysis and reporting – may require using programming language such as VB.Net, Excel, Access or an enterprise reporting system such as SSRS or Tableau.

·         Prepare effective presentations (verbal and written) for project teams and business leaders.
