Title: Hadoop Administrator

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Duration: 6+ months

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Drive automation of system deployments, cluster expansion and maintenance operations
Provide 24x7 tier-3 troubleshooting and break-fix support for production services
Work closely with operations and software engineering teams to design and implement scalable high performance Big Data systems and integration components
Quickly and efficiently troubleshoot simple and complex issues in order to provide outstanding support for internal service level objectives ("3 9's" currently)
Identify areas for process and efficiency improvement within Platform Services Operations; recommend solutions and assist in overseeing implementation. Actively facilitate continuous improvement
Monitor various systems capacity and health indicators and trends; provide analytics & forecasts for added or reduced capacity as required
Ensure all necessary operational processes and procedures are carried out with a high level of attention to detail, expediency and on-time delivery
Work closely with teams in building visual analytics solutions around data - from a distributed hybrid data platform

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

Extensive Unix/Linux experience required
Hadoop administration, installation and monitoring experience
Strong experience with the Big Data Platform (HDFS, MapReduce, HBase, Hive, Pig, Spark, Storm)
Familiarity with Kafka, Zookeeper, Spark, ElasticSearch
Sound knowledge of SQL & NoSQL databases
Experience with cluster and cloud computing technologies (Mesos, Yarn, AWS, OpenStack)
Experience tuning the JVM
Proficiency in at least one scripting language like Python
Experience with IT automation tools like Puppet or Chef
Understanding of version control tools like Git
Experience with machine learning technologies and other programming languages like Java/Scala is a plus
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience required
