Role Senior System Engineer

Location: Burbank, CA

Duration 12 months

Interview: 1) Phone 2) In-person preferred.  Skype possible for strong non-local candidates

 

Project:

 

Oversees the daily operations of the Unix/NT systems engineering function. May also be responsible for OS/390 function and staff. Builds, develops and manages all aspects of UNIX/NT computing. Requires a bachelor's degree with at least 7 years of experience in the field. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department.

 

Job Requirements:

 

• 7 years or more of experience supporting and/or deploying internet-based products or services 
• Knowledge of High Scalability/Availability Systems Architecture and Systems Support 
• Advanced Ruby, Python, and or JAVA programming skills 
• Experience with web application development platforms, tools and utilities including JSP, ASP, PHP, JavaScript, and Flash. 
• Proficiency in authoring and managing configuration management frameworks such as Chef, Puppet, CFEngine 
• Expertise with configuration and management of multiple web server platforms including but not limited to Varnish, Memcached, Tomcat, Apache, PHP, Zend 
• Expertise with Web Caching or Load Balancing technologies such as Varnish, memcached, and HAProxy 
• Expertise in monitoring platforms such as Zenoss, Nagios, OpenNMS 
• Experience working in a DevOps capacity, with Agile methodologies 
• Experience with VCS like GitHub, Perforce, SVN 
• Continuous Deployment mechanisms and integration tools • Experience managing site content and configuration via CDN providers

 

 

Additional Information:

 

Primary responsibilities include implementation and support for Internet based solutions developed for these business units. This includes any content delivery systems, hardware configuration, custom software implementation, database administration, network and systems design, performance and process improvement, and systems documentation. The ideal candidate would be proficient in systems management and application deployment automation through authoring and maintenance of Python, Perl, and shell scripting as well as experience implementing and maintaining enterprise configuration management solutions such as Chef. -This position is also responsible for planning and executing small-to-medium scale projects within the Technical Operations team. Typical projects would include new business unit initiatives and updates to existing products and services that require planning, incredible attention to detail, and flawless execution.
